This is just a little note, for those who might just learn from 0. So as not to be confused.

1. For a complete learning method, it's better you just buy a book. Because here I only discuss the important points.
2. This article will contain an explanation of computers. Example:
   • The basic components of a computer
   • Operating system on the computer
   • And programs commonly used on computers, which are useful for basic understanding.

As we know, most of the book's contents are in standard language, so some people don't understand it a bit. Here I will try to explain what is easy to understand. And I'll just explain what's important.

 

Computer Basics

1. Monitor
   Monitor is a tool that serves to display images that are processed by the computer. Oh yes, this monitor is not a computer brand. It means that if your monitor is brand A, it doesn't mean your computer is brand A too.

PS: Simply put, let's just say that the monitor is a TV that can only work if it is connected to a computer.

2. Processor
   Processor is the 'brain' of the computer that functions to process the commands that the computer runs.

3. Hard disk
   Hard disk is a data storage that functions to store large amounts of data on a computer. If you also certainly already know, data units such as MB, GB. Well, the size of this hard drive for today, the smallest is usually 160GB (giga).

4. RAM
   RAM stands for random access memory which serves as a temporary memory storage in the computer. Simply put, the data that will be processed by the computer will be accommodated first in RAM and then processed by the processor.

5. VGA
   VGA is a tool for visually displaying computer data to the screen. VGA itself is actually the wrong term. The truth is the graphics card. But because it's a habit, I myself don't mind this.

6. Motherboards
   Motherboard aka mainboard, is a 'board' that serves as the main component of the container for the previous components. Take a look inside the computer, there's a big board isn't it? That's the motherboard.

7. Power Supply
   Power supply, its function is to supply electricity from PLN to the computer. The power supply is usually in the form of a box with many cables connected in it.

8. Case
   Casing is where the computer is stored. Casing is usually boxy and large. So actually even without a case the computer can still turn on. (My PC doesn't have a case either).

Note: Well, the 8 components above are the basic components of a computer. For others, it is not necessary to study first. And don't memorize it, just read and understand a little. To get an overview and basic knowledge of computers.

 

Computer Operating System

Then after all the components above have been completely installed. The computer will be ready to run, but cannot be used yet. To use a computer, it takes a system program. This system program is called the Operating System.

The operating system is also commonly abbreviated as OS.

This OS there are many. We take it easy, which are commonly used are Windows, Linux, and Macintosh. But because in Indonesia most users are Windows, let's discuss Windows only. Windows has various versions, and below I will summarize the most frequently used in Indonesia:

1. Windows XP
   Windows XP is an operating system that came out around 2001/2002 (I forget exactly), and is a very popular operating system. Windows XP OS, is often used because it is light and easy to use. Usually, Windows XP is widely used in internet cafes.
2. Windows 7
   Windows 7 is an operating system that was released circa 2009. Windows 7 is the successor of Windows vista (which I intentionally didn't discuss), and has many improvements. Since the existence of Windows 7, Windows XP is becoming obsolete, because its features are out of date (outdated).
3. Windows 8
   Windows 8, is an operating system that was released in 2012. Windows 8 has a main display that is arguably quite different from Windows 7. The most striking, is the disappearance of the start menu (menu at the bottom), and has been optimized for touch screen computers.
4. Windows 10
   Windows 10 is an operating system that was released in 2015. This operating system has various improvements from previous versions of Windows. Among them, the return of the start menu that was missing in Windows 8.

Note: So that you understand how to operate a computer. You must first know what version of Windows you are using.

Applications on the Computer

Inside the computer, there are components and software. This software is a program / data installed on the computer. In the operating system, in fact, many basic programs are installed that are needed to operate the computer.

Well, here I want to know, what kind of computer you want to operate.

• Or typing?
• Or browsing the internet?

The following are software for using various things on a computer.

1. Browser
   A browser is a program for surfing the internet. For Windows itself, it is usually installed by default, an internet explorer browser that can be used to surf the internet. For other programs, you can try Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and so on.
2. Video Player Apps
   To run the video, it takes a video player application. If on Windows, there is already a default application called Windows Media Player. You can also use other video player applications.
3. Microsoft Word
   Is an application that is commonly used for typing. If your goal is to type, please learn how to operate this software.
4. Photoshop
   Photoshop, is a computer program that functions for photo editing. Photoshop can be used for beginners to professionals.
5. Movie maker
   Movie maker, is a video editing application that is suitable for beginners. You can add various effects to videos, trim videos, to add songs to videos easily.
6. Notepad
   Notepad is a built-in Windows application that functions much like Microsoft Word. The difference is, Notepad has a simple feature that can be used to note anything short.
7. Paint
   Paint is a software for drawing on a computer. Paint, apart from being used for drawing, can also be used to capture screenshots (screenshots) easily.
8. And many more
