Types Of Hardware Computer

Hardware is all components that can be seen and touched physically from a computer and its equipment. Hardware works as a unit and does not stand alone in carrying out its functions. A simple computer, for example, requires hardware in the form of a CPU along with complete components in it, various types of monitors, keyboards, and mouse. Hardware can be divided into four types,

  • Input devices,
  • Processing devices,
  • Storage devices,
  • Output devices.

Input Devices

Input devices work by converting commands that can be understood by humans into forms that can be understood by computers. The computer understands the command with a binary code consisting of the numbers 0 and 1.

The input given can be in the form of input signals or maintenance inputs. Signal input is data that is entered into a computer system. Examples of input devices are mouse, keyboard, joystick, scanner, card reader, MICR (magnetic ink character recognition), and touch screen. All of these inputs are called direct input devices. Then, examples of indirect input devices are magnetic disks (hard disks or diskettes) and optical disks (CD, DVD, VCD).

Processing Device

The data processing device is called the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The CPU is an important component that is the brain of the computer in regulating and processing all computer work. Its main task is to carry out and control the overall operation of the computer. Inside the CPU there are various components that work together, such as the motherboard, processor, memory (RAM), VGA, and sound card.

Storage Device

Another name for this device is storage. A data storage device is a medium that is used to store information using either the magnetization of a particular medium, or a laser beam (optical disk). A computer system must have this hardware. Examples of storage media are quite diverse today. Examples include magnetic disks (floppy disks and hard disks), optical disks (CD and DVD), pen drives (USB flash drives and ZIP drives), cards (ATM and chip-cards), and tape (cassettes and reel to reel tape).

Output Device

This hardware is useful for removing the results of processing or processing from the CPU to media that can be read by humans or can be used as data storage for the results of the process. Examples of these devices are monitors, printers, plotters, and speakers.
